NFL Scores Winning Points for Hospice

Monday, October 3 was a picture perfect day as five NFL alumni took to the links with 65 awestruck golfers raising funds for Peachtree Christian Hospice in its 11th Annual Golf Classic, held at St. Ives Country Club.

NFL alumni Brian Finneran, Dewey McClain, Keith Jones, Chris Calloway, and Lou Kirouac, who collectively played 34 seasons of professional football, 23 of those with the Atlanta Falcons, joined the golfers as they warmed up on the range and spent a full day enjoying the best ball tournament and the awards ceremony that followed. The former pro athletes autographed footballs and donated signed photographs that they personally presented as prizes to the tournament winners. It was an absolute thrill for our Hospice and supporters throughout Metro Atlanta to enjoy the day with the NFL alumni. They brought such a celebrity prestige and positive energy to the festive atmosphere of our "winning" event, said Bill Todd, Board Co-Chair of Peachtree Christian Hospice.

As the golfers prepared for a group photo and the shotgun start, Mayor Mike Bodker of Johns Creek formally welcomed and introduced the NFL guests who were matched with five different foursomes.

In her opening remarks, Martha Todd, Board Co-Chair of Peachtree Christian Hospice expressed her gratitude to the celebrities, gold sponsors United Hospice, Jim Ellis Auto Dealerships, Malon D. Mimms Company, and AT&T, as well as Palmer Dodge for sponsoring the "hole-in-one" new Dodge Challenger prize and John White of Golf, For Goodness Sake for organizing the tournament. We are deeply grateful to our special guests, sponsors, and each of you who have joined us today for our 11th Annual Golf Classic that benefits patients facing life-limiting illnesses. Since opening our doors on October 22, 2000, Peachtree Christian Hospice has served more than 6,500 patients, said Todd.

In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of 9/11 that coincided with Peachtree Christian Hospice's first Golf Classic, and in loving memory of deceased individuals who participated in the Hospice's previous Golf Classics, the golfers solemnly proceeded to their golf carts proudly displaying the American Flag as bagpiper Danny Ray Cole, dressed in a ceremonial Scottish kilt, played several musical pieces.

"This was my first time participating in the Peachtree Christian Hospice Annual Golf Classic, and I can assure you, I do look forward to participating in the future. It was just a fun-filled day for a great cause," stated Dewey McClain, former Atlanta Falcon.
